5+ Good Reasons to LOVE Coconut Water

I often joke that I drink Coconut water like it’s water. But really…it’s no joke! Second to good old fashioned H20-Coconut water is my go-to beverage of choice. (With Pellegrino winning the bronze).

Coconut water is low-calorie, low-sugar… (can I get a double AMEN?!) And it’s a super yummy and super refreshing too! It is natures perfect alternative to soda and sports drinks. Like…it’s Heaven sent people!

“BUT I DON’T LIKE THE WAY IT TASTES” you say… I know, I know… there are two types of people in the world. People who like coconut water and people who don’t.

I LOVE IT…(DUH?!) But I can honestly say that if I didn’t…based on the overwhelming evidence out there…I WOULD LEARN TO LOVE IT.

 

 

A FEW REASONS WHY I DRINK IT:

 

1. IT’S HYDRATION MAGIC.  

The thing is…if I’m 100% honest- Water can get a tad bit BORING. And while water is great…coconut water mixes things up a bit and it’s also kind of a bad-ass. It’s just so good for you!!! It’s like natures magic drink. Read on.

 

2. REDUCES STRESS AND TENSION (For Real!)

I get stressed out (who doesn’t right?..) and I also hold a lot of tension in my body. Especially in my neck and shoulders. They are so tight!! Some of the electrolytes found in coconut water, specifically calcium and magnesium, really help with stress and muscle tension. AND…while you sip your coconut water remember to BREATHE (that helps stress and muscle tension too!)

 

3. HEADACHE HELPER (less intense and less often…)

If you’ve suffered from headaches, like I do…you know how terrible they can be. I have been dealing with migraine headaches since I was 17.

If you want to know the math on that… it looks like this: I am 54 years old today – 17 years old when the headaches started = 37 years of headaches. Yep. That’s a long time to have headaches and it’s a big bummer. There are a ton of reasons why I probably get migraines [ie: genetics, hormones, stress…) Some of which I can try and control and some…I just can’t do anything about.

Staying well hydrated and keeping those good old mineral levels in check really does make a huge difference! My friend coconut water helps me do all that.

Bottom Line: Well hydrated + proper balance of potassium, magnesium, calcium, etc. = LESS HEADACHES

 

4. IT’S A DETOX BOOSTER

Our bodies have an amazing natural ability to cleanse and detox on their own! With the right nutrients and proper hydration that is. Coconut water contains a similar electrolyte profile to human blood, making it an ideal beverage to replace fluids and help remove toxins from the body. The electrolyte potassium, specifically, can help counteract some of the negative effects of a high sodium processed diet helps to replace all be necessary.

 

5.  A SMART HEART HEALTH HABIT

There is heart disease in my family tree so I want to make sure my cholesterol and triglycerides levels stay in line. Coconut water helps decrease total cholesterol triglyceride levels, and LDL cholesterol, specifically the cholesterol found in the heart. Again..the magic ingredients: potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Just another reason to become coconut water obsessed!

 

6. TIPS THE SCALE IN MY FAVOR

My weight fluctuates. I have two (or maybe three?) sizes of jeans in my closet. When I increase my water intake…I can see the difference on the scale. When I increase my coconut water intake, even better. FOR REAL.

That’s because it’s an ideal drink for weight loss! It is low in calories. It helps to fill me up… and contains various bioactive enzymes that aid digestion and boost fat metabolism.
And of course…again the P WORD. The potassium… helps balance out sodium.

And as we all know…excess sodium in the body causes that dreaded water retention which leads to water weight. (and who needs water weight?!…#nobody) Thus, coconut water helps flush out excess water as well as toxins from your body. AGAIN with the flushing toxins out of the body!! THE BEST THING EVER. Get those toxins, O. U. T.
